Privacy Policy
The short version: no accounts, no tracking profiles, no selling data. Here's the long version.
What we collect
Server logs. This site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard technical data (IP address, browser type, pages requested) to deliver and secure the site. We see aggregate, non-identifying versions of this.
Calculator inputs. The repair, vehicle type, and state you select in our calculator are processed entirely in your browser. They are not transmitted to us or stored anywhere.
Contributed quotes (optional). If you press "Contribute this quote" in the decoder, we store exactly the numbers you entered — repair, vehicle class, state, shop type, and the total — with a timestamp. No name, email, IP address, or vehicle identifier is attached. Contributions feed the aggregate "what readers are paying" ranges once a repair has enough of them; nothing else happens with them.
Email. If you email us, we keep the correspondence to respond and, where you've shared quote data, to improve our estimates. Submitted quote data is used in aggregate; we don't publish anything that identifies you.
What we don't do
- No user accounts, no login, nothing to breach.
- No sale or sharing of personal information with data brokers or repair shops — we are not a lead-generation service.
- No cross-site advertising trackers as of the effective date. We do plan to fund the site with display advertising (such as Google AdSense). When ads go live, third-party vendors — including Google — will use cookies to serve ads, and Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings. This policy and its effective date will be updated when that happens.
Cookies
The site itself sets no cookies as of the effective date. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary cookies for security (bot mitigation). If display advertising goes live, advertising vendors (including Google) will set cookies as described under "What we don't do" — the ad-cookie disclosure and opt-out link there will apply.
Your rights
Depending on your state (including under the California Consumer Privacy Act) you may have rights to access or delete personal information. Since we hold essentially none unless you've emailed us, the practical scope is your correspondence — email [email protected] and we'll handle access or deletion requests within 30 days.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
Material changes to this policy will be posted here with a new effective date. Questions: [email protected].
